Happy 25th Birthday to the Super Famicom

25 years ago on November 21, 1990, Nintendo Japan released 3 major things — the first F-Zero, the magnificent Super Mario World and a super console to play them on. Thus the Super Famicom (Super NES or SNES in the US) was born. It’s probably my favorite game system of all time, trailed very closely by the Playstation 2.

Why?

The major reason was it has superlative games and not just from Nintendo but from third parties as well. Let me run through some of the superb games we enjoyed on the SNES:

Chrono Trigger
Final Fantasy 6
The Legend of Zelda: A link to the Past
Super Mario World
Super Mario World 2: Yohis Island
Street Fighter 2
Earthbound
Secret of Mana
Castlevania IV
Mortal Kombat
TMNT IV: Turtles in Time
Super Mario RPG
Super Metroid
Donkey Kong Country
Super Mario RPG
F-Zero
Legend of Mana
Super Mario Kart
NBA Jam

Yep, the Super Famicom (SNES) is my favorite gaming system of all time and I didn’t even own one as i couldn’t afford one and only used to play in gaming shops. Here’s hoping Nintendo recaptures some of the Super Famicom magic when their new console debuts next year.
