Blizzard just announced Diablo 3 but it seems like a lot of so called Diablo Purists and Fans are up in arms with the new artistic direction. Take ,for an instance, this petition that says, in part:
An independent and renewed artistic direction, not a recycled art direction taken from the Warcraft world, Diablo never was meant to be as cartoon’ish as Warcraft, they shall have independent and distinct styles, this isnt happening in Diablo 3, at first sight it looks like a remake of World of Warcraft, graphically and artistically speaking.
Or this excerpt from a blog post by Bethesda’s Fallout 3 producer, Ashley Cheng:
I must say I am disappointed that Blizzard has stayed on the conservative side in terms of design with their updates to Diablo and Starcraft. Diablo will be interesting since World of Warcraft has a lot of Diablo-like qualities. I have no doubt, however, that they will be incredibly fun, addictive and polished games. Blizzard is the top of the class when it comes to game development – nobody does it better.
All valid opinions. I showed the Diablo 3 trailer and cinematics to all former and current diablo players i could find and the response was “*&U@^@*&^*@! WOW, That makes me wanna play Diablo 2 again!” so i guess even though we see/read/hear a lot of whining right now, a ton of people will still be buying it (sign me up for a Diablo 3 collectors edition right now!) and , more importantly, ENJOYING IT as they did Diablo and Diablo 2: LOD
i agree… everywhere i look its bashing diablo 3. they say “its not gritty enough”…. how much more gritty do you have to be than to bite a barbarians head off? just like the mini boss did in the diablo 3 video…
Well i think the game is looking pretty amazing
