  What is beauty if the brain is empty? Well, that beauty is now representing us to the Miss World pageant! So many people suggest that she brings an interpreter along…yeah, why not? Manny Pacquiao has his. Maybe in our vernacular she could give a sensible answer. Does she deserve the title?   Ok fine nagkamali nga sya sa pag iingles nya marami naman dyan nagkakamali sa english even me. Pero my GOLLY! mali na nga english nya hindi nya pa nasagot ng tama ang tanong. okay lang kung mali mali grammar nya basta nandun yung thought ng sagot. diba parang walang kalalim lalim yung sagot nya (siguro dahil 17 lang). dapat hindi question and answer ang itawag dun kundi QUESTION and QUESTIONABLE ANSWER! pero in fairness naman to her hindi naman yata questionable ang pagkatao nya at beauty queen material talaga, kailangan lang siguro mas marami pang experience sa buhay para maging mallim ng konti

  ayan, sabi nya confident sya. eh nung sinagot na nya yung million dollar question, she just gaved a 5 cents answer. ang masama pa, nagpaliwanag lang sya kung baket di nya masagot ng ayos pero di nya talaga nasagot yung tanong. sana inamin na lang nya na kinakabahan talaga sya, baka mas naaccept pa ng manonood. ayun nagtrying-hard lang sya at napahiya nationwide. di ko pa gusto tono ng boses nya at asta nya nung sinabi nya yung line sa taas, ang yabang ng dating pero sa huli wala pala ibubuga. siguro naawa ang judges sa kanya kaya binigay sa kanya ang Bb. Pilipinas World title. Naku, pang Ms. Barangay San Miguel at Ms. End of the World dapat ang title nya… hahahah!

  Maybe the judges had seen something good with Janina that’s why they made her win. I know nakakatawa siya during the interview but I still believe that the judges had their own valid reasons why they gave her the title. I am really curios why she was chosen as one of the major titlists. Hi! Janina, don’t be discouraged…you still have 7 months to prepare…that’s ample time to improve…… Don’t mind so much the bitter words of those scrutinizing hypocrites! Look at it as a challenge that will yield a positive result. There’s always a way to redeem yourself. GO FOR THE CROWN IN THE MISS WORLD COMPETITION

  That’s okey Janine….you have a lot of time to practice your english or speech proficiency. At least you’re gorgeous & beautiful. You’re seventeen years old, 5’9 in height & very sexy as well as perfect in an evening gown. You may have a chance at the international pageant. Just needs motivation to summon your confidence in front of the audience. A lot of work for the management but I’m sure you learned a lot already especially on that night. Suggestion: when answering in front of the crowd, no matter how many & intimidating the people are, forget them, focus on the question. Think a little to organize your thoughts then speak well. You don’t have to answer long, just a short or brief but to the point answer & WALAH…that’s it.

  Think on the times you presented a project in front of your classmates & professors, just be cool & be confident & you’ll win your crowd. Don’t doubt about it. Congratulations!

  Ahh, who am I kidding? :)) Take the crown off! Pull it off her empty head if you have too! How embarrassing. Although I have to give her credit for being a beauty, there’s no doubt about that. And the fact that she is only 17.

  Point is.. How embarrassing! The Philippines is known to be on top of the world, in terms of literacy rate. I still have not heard or read a valid reason as to why that happened to her. None! “She’s only 17..”, “Stage fright..”, “First time..” Blah, blah, blah.. Can’t you just say you’re weak at English??

  Oh, well, good luck Philippines. I’d honestly want to say “Try again next year”, but, think positive.. “Go, Janina! You can do it!”" ..with a little help. :)

  in the first place, why do u guys react exaggerately on this issue? We can use our own language, tagalog, if ever miss San Miguel would make it in the Question and Answer portion in the Miss World.   Pageant is all about beauty and brain. As a televiewer of that pageant night, ive witnessed all the lovely candidates with thier performances. It happened that Ms Janina San Miguel wasn’t able to answer the questioned being asked by Miss Vivienne Tan because of tremendous nervous. Despite of her failure in speaking english she did her best. the good thing there was she used her vernacular and she express what family exactly role in her lives and most especialy the role in our country. She deserved of her title now. and let her to grow with her mistakes. dont judge her or even critisize her. instead of it let our hearts be open for forgiveness and thanks for the successful pageant night. Encourage one another to build a better realtionship.Were one country and were one name.

  Siguro nga, sa tingin natin lahat that Janina doesn’t deserve that crown but I’ll think judges pick her up as Bb. Pilipinas World kasi may nakita silang something special and hindi nila nakita sa iba. Yes, we conclude that she can’t speak well but i think she could be trained for how many months.
  Co’z I know its not only the beauty and brain that counts on it, but how you project well in front of the big crowd.

  But, If hindi kaya e train sya, for speech lesson pwede naman cgurong magdala ng sariling enterpreter ,para e translate kung ano ang gusto nyang sbihin that she can’t speak in English. Let her speak in tagalog in our own national language, coz some candidates in miss world also speak in their own language.

  Honestly, at first I was really shocked when the news came out that Janina failed to answer the question properly. I was upset knowing that she’s a mass communication student. But I realized that judging her is no good! We should be fair and forgiving sa kanya. Gaya ng mga sinasabi ng iba, everybody is not perfect. Kaya let’s just give her support. Sige kayo pagnanalo yan sa Miss World lagot kayong lahat. Basta magtulungan na lang tayo ha?

  I don’t believe that people should pity her simply because other people criticize her. It’s true that nobody is perfect, but the fact that she won when more deserving people could have bagged the crown is mortifying. :/ I don’t believe that age or nervousness has anything to do with it, because she would have given a more substantial answer despite grammatical errors if she said something remotely intelligent (or, at least, something that answered the question). What’s more entertaining than watching Janina’s “moment of glory” is reading the comments in youtube. :))

  I feel sorry for her. It was really a shame to be seen on national TV and overseas answering a very simple question with incorrect grammar, no poise and sense at all.

  That pageant reminds me of “Bikini Open,” the movie of Cherry Pie Picache and Francine Prieto.

  Some people commented that Janina is well poised that is why she deserves the crown, but I did not see that poise. She mumbled when she answered the question.

  Pageant is a contest. Everyone who joins will be subject to criticism, that is why there are judges who will score the contestants. It is already given that all of these criticisms will be thrown to her because she failed to prove herself.

  It’s a good thing though that she still won. Goodluck na lang sa Philippines! Sana nga she will improve before the main event happens. Kaso baka naman sabihin nya na naman eh 17 years old lang sya and 2nd time nya pa lang sa pageant. Kaya lang I doubt it if she will improve her English in 7 months.

It was not very easy for me to stand alone in the stage of that pageant because aside from me being nervous it was my first time even to be in the top 10. If it was you there instead of me, it will be difficult also. I will try my best to study in the 7 months that I was given to study speaking in English to make all Filipinos proud of me even if I’m not a genius like all of you who are mocking me here.   Well, well…..lumabas na naman ang colonial mentality ng mga Pinoy. Here we are fighting for our identity and our very own place in the world pero hindi natin mapatawad ang pagkakamali ng isang international representative sa pagsasalita ng banyagang wika. Just because you are not fluent in a foreign language does not mean you have no brains. Napakababaw talaga ng ilan nating kababayan. Just look at the more affluent countries that join these pageants. Their representatives do not speak English at all, but do we look down on them? Sinasabi ba nating bobo ang mga Hapon, Germans, Spanish etc.? Of course not, we actually admire them for not falling into the trap of getting the admiration of other people by speaking English. Wake up folks! Get rid of that mentality for I am pretty sure that not a lot of Filipinos can speak perfect English especially under tremendous pressure.

  kasi kung hindi kaya mag-english, wag na magpilit. di naman bawal mag-tagalog baket ba kasi nagpaka-trying hard pa. well, sa tingin ko lpu naman si janina…as in low pick-up. saw her other interviews eh susme…wala pa ring sense ang mga sagot. kaya go magpadala na ng interpreter pag laban nya sa ms world. tyaka parang masarap mapakinggan ang salitang tagalog sa international beauty contest diba…its a good way na rin to intoduce our language to the world. tagalog is a beautiful language we should be proud of it.

  I”m not questioning her english.okey lang kung mali ang grammar…ang point ko.mali ang sagot nya sa tanong…kahit padalhn mo ng interpreter yan..kung hindi nya alam ang sagot wala rin.anong silbi ng interpreter.
