Grand Theft Auto Chinatown Wars DS Reviews

The newest entry in the GTA series may not have the graphical flair of its big brothers but it sure does have that GTA feel to it. Make no mistake though, GTA for the DS pushes the little handheld that could to its limits. From the car chases, jacking cars, scandalous minigames, the story; this game is truly a grand theft auto game. The visuals are running at 30fps most of the time and the developers did an exceptional job of cramming the small ds cart size with graphical detail and awesome physics. Definitely one of the best Nintendo DS games and thank god its not a casual one. Not suitable for kids.

Here are some of the reviews of GTA Chinatown Wars for the Nintendo DS:

IGN says : “know I’m omitting a ton from this review – there’s so much to the design that it’s impossible to list everything there to experience. What I won’t forget to mention: Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars continues GTA’s legacy as the premiere “sandbox” game design. Though it might look like a lot has changed in the move to the handheld platform, more has been added than taken away – there’s so much to do in this Liberty City, and it’s hard not to be impressed and amazed at some of the things the developer’s managed to pull off on the hardware. GTA: Chinatown Wars is easily one of the best Nintendo DS games on the platform.”

Eurogamer [100/100] says “Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars is a triumph, not just in terms of bringing a difficult game to a new platform intact, but because it actually improves it in the process, and demonstrates a mastery of DS form and function.”

Gamepro writes: “This is Grand Theft Auto the way you love it: all of the innovation, charm and thrills from its past installations neatly tied together in a creative package worthy of any DS owner.”

1up says: “Chinatown Wars is what I expected — it takes an understandable few steps back from GTA4, but also takes a couple forward (a touch screen can do that). It’s a well-honed “core” GTA on the handheld, not merely a one-to-one clone of its console parents.”

  1. Glad that Rockstar made a real game for the DS and not some half-baked product slapped with the GTA logo like what other milking cash cows do.
