Leaked pics of the slim PS3 have started to scatter across the intarwebs. The pictures look like factory images showing a slimmer and thin Playstation 3 casing and boxes. Lawyers have also started sending cease and desist letters to websites showing the “leaked” pics , lending more credence to the rumor.

Last year wasnt exactly a big year for Sony’s PSP in North America, with a software release list that could nicely be called thin. Reports have come in that this was in part due to developers nearly abandoning the PSP partly due to piracy on the platform.

The holidays were really successful for Nintendo as the company sold 3.04 million Nintendo DS handhelds during the month of December 2008. They also end the year with the Wii as the top-selling console in the United States, blowing the console competition far behind. US 2009 Holidays hardware sales after the jump.

Gamepro reports that “Sony has cut the cost of materials used to make its PlayStation 3 game console by 35 percent, according to market research firm iSuppli.”

Looks like Nintendo and Sony cant help but talk about the next next-generation of consoles. Sony is still battling it out with Microsoft for the second spot this generation while the Wii (and the DS) has Nintendo comfortably in the lead.
