Samsung Galaxy Y S5360 Netphone Review

We got our grubby hands on the latest phone to join SMART’s Netphone family of phones, the Samsung Galaxy Y, and GUESS WHAT: we love it!

The Samsung Galaxy Y S5360 Netphone is an entry-level smartphone that features Android 2.3 aka Gingerbread, 3-inch touch screen, Wifi, Bluetooth, Expandable Memory and Built-in Social Apps.

Build and Performance
The Samsung Galaxy Y’s casing is made entirely of plastic but i loved the grill design Samsung implemented for the back cover of the Samsung Y. It also doesnt feel like cheap plastic. I also did not experience any lag when navigating through the various apps. The Samsung Galaxy Y really felt more responsive than SMART’s other current netphone model, the Netphone 701.

Camera quality is a toss up but make sure to have more light in your photos as most built in cameras on Android devices such as the Netphone 701 and the Galaxy Y work best with daylight lighting.

Battery life is on par with other android based devices, meaning if you run a lot of games/apps expect to charge at least once everyday after 4 hours or so. Remember to maximize your battery by turning of unnecessary services such as wifi as your standby phone battery usage will be taking a huge chunk of your battery supply.

The only thing i dont like as much is the screen of the Samsung Galaxy Y. Having been used to a lovely screen from Samsung on the Galaxy Tab, it was bit disappointing that the Galaxy Y didn’t come with a higher resolution screen. I would’ve gladly paid a bit more for a higher quality screen.

Final Word
The Samsung Galaxy Y S5360 is an attractive phone for young users considering it’s price point at Php 5,990 pesos (You can get it FREE on as low as Plans 300/500 via SMART). It has most of the essential features of higher priced phones and while the screen isn’t Samsung’s best, it is adequate for everyday use. With SMART’s built in Netphone service, the Samsung Galaxy Y is a capable social media device that allows you to access facebook and twitter for free via Smart’s application.

  1. I am really interested in this phone since it got great features for an entry level price. I only wish that they made the resolution a bit higher. It’s the deal breaker for me.
