Alienware MX11 gets a Core i5/i7/Optimus upgrade!

Alienware’s MX11, the worlds smallest gaming laptop, gets an upgrade courtesy of Intel Core i5/i7 processors and Nvidia Optimus technology allowing MX11 users to swicth from integrated graphics to discrete graphics with just a push of a button.

The M11x, which can be built-to-order on Alienware.com, was originally offered with a Core 2 Duo processor at a starting price of $799, but now users can opt to customize Core i5 systems at a base price of $949, and Core i7 systems for $1,099. Core i5 systems are clocked at 1.066GHz with a 3M cache and can be overclocked to 1.866 GHz, while the i7s default at 1.2 GHz with a 4M cache and can be boosted to 2.266 GHz.

I wish the Alienware MX11 was available here in the Philippines but its a good thing i can get one from friends from Singapore. =)

“The other major addition to the new M11x systems is the integration of NVIDIA’s new Optimus discrete graphics control system. Previously the M11x allowed users to manually delegate graphics processing to either the system’s integrated CPU or dedicated NVIDIA GeForce GT 335M, but with Optimus the system is now fully automated, and will activate the appropriate processor depending on any given application’s needs. What does this mean for users? Well, instead of having to make a conscious effort to maximize battery life and performance by switching processors, Optimus will do it in real-time, without any screen or program interruption.

Otherwise, the only other change to the M11x is a revision to its finish, which will go from its current gloss black to a new “soft touch” matte black finish. Specs-wise, users can still choose from 160GB hard drive configurations, expandable up to 256GB solid state solutions, and the same array of specs, including the 11.6-inch 720p HD display, AlienFX illumination effects, Wi-Fi networking, optional WWAN mobile port, HDMI output, and three USB ports. ”
